How we work

The rules we keep, from the raw materials we buy to the price on the shelf.

A stack of three clay books, a brass scale and a magnifying glass on a pale wooden desk

We know where every ingredient comes from.

Each raw material is traced to its source, and we keep a Certificate of Analysis on file for what we received. If we cannot get one, we do not buy it.

We build to the UK and EU lists.

US rules allow cosmetic ingredients that those lists restrict. If an ingredient is not permitted in cosmetics sold in Europe, it does not go into our products.

Every ingredient earns its place.

We read the research, not the trend reports. Each one goes in the right form, at a level the evidence supports, or it stays out.

No formula is ever finished.

What customers tell us about how a product feels and wears goes into the next version. Some of our formulas are on their third or fourth.

Priced so a better formula is not a luxury.

That means thinner margins and doing more of the work ourselves. We think it is the right trade.

The people who make it

We work with a small number of manufacturing partners. We ask how the people in their facilities are paid and looked after, and we check what we can.
